NEWS RELEASE
CALLS FOR BUSINESSES TO PREPARE FOR EU EXPANSION
Leicestershire businesses should prepare for an increase in customers, jobs and trade from Europe.
This is the message coming from the Euro Info Centre at Business Link for Leicestershire who are supporting a new government website to help British businesses get the most out of Europe.
"With Europe likely to agree the membership of an additional ten countries later this year, it is clear that the EU is expanding", said Sarah Wilson, Euro Info Centre manager. "Businesses need to start planning now to take advantage of the opportunities this will offer and ensure they are not left behind their European competitors.
"The new website is designed to give businesses the support they need to prepare for and compete in this new, enlarged marketplace - especially small businesses who can not afford to miss out."
European expansion will create the largest single market in the world, with up to 500 million customers. Research estimates the income in trade will boost national income by £1.75 billion and create more than 300,000 jobs across the EU.
The website can be found at www.dti.gov.uk/ewt/enlargement.htm. For further information contact the Euro Info Centre team on 0845 070 0086.
