NEWS RELEASE
EAST MIDLANDS FARMING TO GET MASSIVE BOOST AS FARM BUSINESS ADVICE SERVICE RECEIVES NEW FUNDING
Farmers across the East Midlands are set to benefit from extra funding for the region's Farm Business Advice Service.
DEFRA has allocated an extra £100,000 to be spent in the east midlands before the end of March. It boosts the total budget of the East Midlands Farm Business Advice Service to allow over 400 farms to access this service for this financial year.
Business Link Lincolnshire & Rutland, which runs the scheme on behalf of the Business Links in the East Midlands region, has already cleared a waiting list of 150 and is now urging farmers who have yet to use the service to make contact.
The funding covers two free services:
1. A three-day business health check, action plan and guidance scheme open to all farmers.
2. An enhanced service including a farm recovery plan for farmers who have had stock compulsorily slaughtered.
More than 600 farmers have received free business advice through the East Midlands Farm Business Advice Service since October 2000.
Farmers receive three days of an experienced farm business adviser's time during which the current position of the business is assessed and a new business plan developed. Follow up visits provide guidance and advice on putting the plan into action.
To qualify, applicants have to be farming in England, have a CPH number and spend at least 75 per cent of their working time on a core farming business.
The service does not provide grants but the advisers can signpost farmers to sources of funding if these are required.
For more information or to register for either of the services please contact the Farm Business Advice Team on 0845 450 0630
