21 January 2002 NEWS RELEASE LINCOLN CITY FIRMS MORE LIKELY TO INVEST IN PEOPLE - SURVEY Lincoln city and West Lindsey employers are leading the way on workforce development, according to latest figures from Business Link Lincolnshire & Rutland. A total of 37 per cent of organisations in Lincoln city and West Lindsey have already gained or are working towards the Investors In People standard - an important measure of commitment to developing the workforce. The figures show 76 Lincoln city organisations have achieved the award and 70 more have committed to gaining it. In West Lindsey, 37 firms have gained recognition and 27 have committed. Across Lincolnshire and Rutland, 273 organisations have gained the standard, which is jointly managed by Business Link and the Learning and Skills Council. "Take up of Investors In People is higher in Lincoln City and West Lindsey than anywhere else in Lincolnshire or Rutland and way above the 21 per cent average," said Sally Walker, workforce development manager at Business Link. Per cent of organisations recognised or committed to Investors In People by area: Lincoln and West Lindsey 37(17) East Lindsey and North Kesteven 21(11) Boston 17(10) South Holland and South Kesteven 15(8) Rutland 4(2) (Note: figures in brackets are the per cent that have already achieved recognition.) Among commercial organisations, manufacturers are most likely to be accredited Investors In People followed by wholesalers, retailers and construction companies. Of firms with 50 to 249 employees, 24 per cent already have the standard and between April and October, 49 new organisations in the ten to 250 employee range committed to gaining it.
