NEW WEBSITE GIVES HELPING HAND TO BUSINESSES
Tens of thousands of businesses across Leicestershire can now key into free business support online following a major overhaul of the Business Link for Leicestershire web site.
Users logging on to www.leicestershire.businesslink.co.uk will see a total change in the Business Link web service. They can get a free business health check online, download documents and access information that is updated daily.
The impetus for the overhaul has been to make the web service totally customer focused. This is in line with Business Link's goal to become the first choice for business support in Leicestershire.
One of the main aspects of the overhaul is a new interactive section that allows businesses in need of solutions to get instant feedback whenever they need it. "Business Toolkit" has been introduced to give in-depth support on line across a range of key subjects.
Using on-line questionnaires, businesses assess their performance both overall and in key areas such as marketing, finance and people management. The system then points users to the most appropriate solutions and any additional sources of information.
The toolkit service features 120 pages of questionnaires, results reports and downloadable documents.
Completely overhauling the web site, including research and feedback from businesses, has taken nine months and the launch of the new site is only the first stage in its ongoing development. The aim is to ensure the site meets current and future needs and gives Business Link's SME customers access to the support and information they really need.
A crucial element has been building in a facility to allow Business Link staff to carry out updates directly, rather than through a web manager. This means they can feed up to date news and information directly onto the site as soon as it is available. This in turn should ensure that advice, on legislation for example, is always current.
Other radical changes to the web service include:

· Information on grants and loan schemes
· National and local business news
· Information on Events and Seminars
Colin Hargreaves, Business Link business adviser and web site development manager, said: "The point of the redevelopment was to turn the site from an electronic brochure for Business Link into a 24 hours a day, seven days a week business resource providing virtual business support alongside the physical resources of the Business Links.
