FASHION CAPITAL BECKONS LEICESTERSHIRE MANUFACTURERS
The fashion capital Paris was the destination for a group of four Leicester clothing and textile companies who visited France on a trade mission.
Led by Suzy Bolton of the International Trade Team at Business Link for Leicestershire, the delegation explored possible export opportunities and visited two major textile exhibitions, Fatex and Interselection, with a view to exhibiting at future shows.
Although they are held alongside each other, each exhibition is aimed at a different end of the clothing and textile supply chain. Fatex is more relevant to subcontractors from companies with a production capacity or technical capability, whereas Interselection is for companies who design and make their own collections and sell directly to retailers.
Leicester-based NICO worldwide have this year exhibited at Interselection. Company director Naz Issat said, "This was the first time we have exhibited in Paris and it was very successful. We are in the process of liasing with the contacts we made and hope to secure more contracts in the future."
After attending the exhibitions, the group met with Claire Knott, commercial officer at the British Embassy in Paris, who discussed opportunities, market conditions and ways to develop trading links with French retailers.
Dilip Patel, company director of Jack Masters, took part in a mission to Brussels in April and was also one of the delegates on trip to France. After experiencing trade fairs in both countries, he is looking into exhibiting in the future.
Suzy said, "At the moment we are exploring the possibility of subsidising an East Midlands stand at Fatex and supporting more businesses to show at Interselection. In this way we hope to introduce more East Midlands companies to export markets and the advantages that overseas trade can bring."
Leicester-based manufacturers Ohcowear, Villas Textiles and Hazel Fashions were the other group members.
