BUSINESS LEADERS DISCUSS FUTURE OF PRINT SECTOR
Almost 50 print industry executives attended the first meeting of the Leicestershire Print Forum last week to discuss the future of the print sector in Leicestershire.
The forum aims to deal with critical issues such as rising costs, rapid technological change and poor industry image. It is backed by Business Link Leicestershire, who identified the print and publishing industry as one of its key sectors for the Leicestershire economy in its 2002 - 03 business plan.
Mukesh Naker, company secretary and director of Chatham Printers, and Mike Owens, financial controller of Benson Box, chaired the event, which was supported by agencies including the British Printing Industries Federation, Print & Graphic Communication NTO and Leicester College.
A series of presentations examined the importance of working as partners rather than competitors to tackle problems within the industry. Workshops included the marketing of the print industry and sharing and co-operation between businesses. In their feedback, delegates said events like this were an important way to bring firms together and they would like to see the group continuing to meet on a regular basis.
Mukesh Naker said, "The forum will allow businesses to develop relationships and share ideas. People have many different perceptions of the print industry at the moment and it is good to discuss these and the opportunities that are available."
"We want to encourage more people to join the forum and ensure it grows in numbers, expertise, knowledge and support."
