14 June 2002 NEWS RELEASE LOUTH HOTEL FINDS POWER TO SUCCEED Celebrations continued into the night as The Brackenborough Arms marked its success at the Lincolnshire & Rutland Business Awards 2002. Delivered by Business Link Lincolnshire & Rutland in association with the Lincolnshire Echo, the awards recognised the hard work and dedication of 12 new and existing businesses in categories including e-business and export success. Situated just outside Louth, The Brackenborough Arms Hotel and Guest House was presented with the POWER Award, which recognises established businesses that provide employment opportunities for disabled people. The company was nominated for the award by work-experience student Sharon Marshall, who works at The Brackenborough Arms for one day a week along with 36 other staff. Since starting her placement, Sharon has achieved her NVQ level one in catering and is looking forward to starting her level two. She said, "I enjoy working at The Brackenborough Arms because the staff are a good laugh to work with, you can talk to them and they understand me." Judges praised The Brackenborough Arms for its open and positive attitude towards employing people and the fact that the management clearly focus on peoples' ability to do a particular job and not their disability. Where appropriate, additional help and support is provided to staff to ensure they have the best opportunity to achieve their goals. Pam Miller, POWER Project Manager at Business Link Lincolnshire & Rutland said, "Disability should not be seen as a barrier to staff progressing within a business. The Brackenborough Arms is a great example of a business providing employment opportunities for disabled people and encouraging them to reach their full potential" The awards were sponsored by Alstom, the Learning & Skills Council Lincolnshire & Rutland, POWER (Progressing Opportunities for Work through Education and Research), City of Lincoln Council, Chattertons Solicitors, Pannell Kerr Forster, UK online for business, NatWest, Lincoln Junior Chamber, Lincolnshire Development, West Lindsey District Council and South Holland District Council.
