NEWS RELEASE
RUTLAND FIRM HAS CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION
A Rutland firm of consulting engineers is planning a double celebration after achieving Investors in People recognition and reaching their silver jubilee.
Oakham-based Smithers Purslow completed the standard in only four months with help from Business Link Lincolnshire & Rutland and will celebrate their silver jubilee in June this year.
The firm, which employs 40 people, specialises in civil and structural engineering and building surveying across the country. They are engineers to Royal & SunAlliance in the East Midlands region and have recently been involved in structural alterations at Burghley House and the extension of Dominoes in Leicester to make it the largest toy, model, art and craft shop in the UK.
Helped by the changes made over the last four months, company director Steve Fraser is looking forward to further growth and success in 2002.
"Investors in People has helped to focus the business, giving us specific short, medium and long term goals to improve systems, performance and ultimately customer satisfaction," he said.
He added, "We already had well documented objectives and procedures in place but now our culture has started to change too. Team spirit and communication have improved significantly and more in-house training is helping the transfer of knowledge throughout the business."
Mandy Smith, Investors in People practitioner at Business Link Lincolnshire & Rutland, said, "Investors in People can take up to two years to complete and it is thanks to their high standards that Smithers Purslow were able to achieve it so rapidly. More than 270 organisations across Lincolnshire and Rutland have now gained the Investors in People standard and realised the benefits. I am pleased that Smithers Purslow can join them."
