LEICESTERSHIRE FIRMS TO GET INSIDE TRACK ON SELLING TO UN
Leicestershire businesses are being invited to a free special business clinic in the city to discover how to sell products and services to the United Nations.
Aimed at companies supplying emergency and relief products and services, the Business Link for Leicestershire event will feature Eleanor Baha, Britain's commercial vice consul in Geneva who specialises in advising UK companies on UN procurement.
Businesses will have 30-minute one-to-one counselling sessions with the vice consul.
There are 39 different procuring agencies in the UN together spending more than £2.5 billion a year, making it one of the world's largest procuring entities.
Kay Marsden, head of international trade at Business Link for Leicestershire, said: "The UN agencies are a particularly good market for small to medium sized firms. They buy on their own account and pay promptly. The average contract is £12,000 and international tendering for contracts is rarely necessary. Payment is guaranteed and English is the working language."
About 40% of UN contracts are for professional services, the remainder for goods.
Mrs Baha has extensive knowledge of how the UN Procurement System works and will provide up-to-date market information and details of current purchasing opportunities. She will be at Business Link's York Road offices on Wednesday December 4.
A business visit to the UN head offices in Geneva is planned for January providing the opportunity to take part in an exhibition and to meet with various senior UN purchasing officers.
