NEW NETWORK FOR ENTERPRISING BUSINESS WOMEN
Patricia Hewitt, local MP and Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, will join businesswomen from across Leicestershire to launch a new network designed to encourage entrepreneurship and support women in business.
The inaugural meeting of the Business Women's Link for Leicestershire is set for Friday 26th April at the Leicester Stage Hotel, with keynote speakers Arlene Sherwood, managing director of Samworth Brothers Distribution and Parvinder Vir, producer/diversity adviser at Carlton Television.
The initiative is being launched by Business Link Leicestershire, who identified demand for the network during a research project into the needs of women owner-managers earlier this year. The research showed overwhelming support for a network that could provide a focal point for women in business to meet, discuss and share opinions on business issues, ideas and problems.
And the businesswomen attending the launch will be setting the agenda for the future development of the network.
The network will bring together members of other groups in the county, including Leicester Asian Business Association, Belgrave Baheno and The Peepul Centre, Leicester African-Caribbean Business Association and Integra of Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce. Also involved are The Prince's Trust, Bhagini Centre, Shama Women's Centre and Homeworkers Campaign for Change.
Rajinder Bhuhi, assistant small business counsellor with Business Link, said, "Helping women to start up and develop business in Leicestershire is important for the area's future prosperity. We hope this network will help to support existing businesses and remove some of the obstacles to encourage many more women to set up successful enterprises, with members able to learn from each other and develop new contacts and skills."
