All for a good Claus!

It’s fair to say a typical Sunday morning for me doesn’t usually involve a great deal of actual morning. However, last Sunday I dragged myself out of bed, pre-8am and dressed up as one of Santa’s elves to raise money for some very worthy causes.
hopwood pr account manager Karen Bateman and I donned our homemade elf outfits while director Duncan Hopwood dressed up as Father Christmas to take part in Loughborough’s 5th annual Great Santa Fun Run.
Duncan is a running veteran with ten marathons under his belt, but Karen and I only began training earlier this autumn so we were very pleased to complete the 6km (3.75miles) course together in around 35 minutes. I think we may even have caught the ‘running bug’ I was trying so hard to avoid. Now, we’re looking into 10km runs, half-marathons and have even discussed doing the London Marathon in 2011.

More than 1,200 Santas took part in the event, organised by the Loughborough Rotary Club, aiming to raise more than £40,000 for a range of local and national charities, including Rainbows, LOROS, Macmillan Cancer Support and The Children’s Hospices.
So far we’ve raised over £200 for the race which is a modest start to a major fundraising campaign we’re looking forward to announcing in the new year.
